Planning - Preliminary Task 2
Concept for "90 Seconds"
Why we named the opening "90 Seconds"
- Gives the audience some information
- Schalk has 90 seconds to hide
- time based name leaving the question what happens when the time runs out.
Target audience: Action/Mystery Thriller enthusiasts, Adults.
Character:
Main Character (Schalk) is our protagonist and victim in this film. They are portrayed as a innocent and ordinary human being who is coming home from a long day at work but then runs into some trouble. He is then put in a vulnerable position of trying to save his girlfriend and having to do what the stalker says. Leaving the mystery of what is going to happen to Schalk and even the girlfriend.
- The Stalker is the antagonist, lurking in the background. His identity is not known and is hidden behind the phone. They are portrayed as a psychotic and sadistic character who is doing what they are doing for the pleasure of other peoples inconvenience. This character's identity is hidden throughout the entirety of the film leading the audience to be hooked on what they actually want.
Setting/Time:
- The setting takes place in a walkway with a bridge. This will give that isolated feeling as well as giving a high intensity as it is an action thriller. The bridge can also be seen as a very normal setting and that means we will be challenging conventions as we will be making it high intensity and suspenseful.
- Time passing is shown by the camera shots, and the time shown on the phone. Also when Schalk is given the order to hide the stalker will be counting down from 90 which means the audience will know exactly how much time Schalk has to hide creating the high intensity.
- The plot is structured around the feeling of Schalk needing to obey this man and take action of this mysterious stalker behind the phone. The fact that the stalker has the girlfriend on the other side of the phone makes it all the more real for our protagonist and therefore leads him to listen to what the stalker is saying. Leading Schalk to needing to hide and hope that he does what the stalker says right so that the nothing happens to the girlfriend.
- The phone - is our only prop that is going to be used. It will be used to help show the passing of time and also be the main way in which the stalker is able to communicate to Schalk. Leading it to be the main item that allows the plot to take place and the story unfold.
- Schalk's costume is going to be that of the typical tradie in New Zealand. With old ruggard clothes and work boots. This will help show that Schalk has just had a long day at work and is now going home to rest.
-
Fast-Paced Plot - Action and mystery thrillers often feature rapid pacing, with intense sequences that keep the audience on the edge of their seats while advancing the storyline quickly.
-
Suspense and Tension - These films focus on building suspense through unpredictable twists, high stake scenarios, and the gradual revelation of secrets, keeping viewers guessing.
-
Strong Protagonist and Antagonist - Central characters, often a skilled detective, vigilante, or ordinary person caught in extraordinary circumstances, face off against a formidable antagonist, driving the conflict.
- Establishing Shots of the setting and where it is set will be at the start of the film, to help show the audience where the film is taking place and set the over all atmosphere of the film.
- Close-ups of Schalk's face will help the audience know what the character is feeling and what is running through his mind. It will also give a high intensity film as we can see all the expressions of Schalk's face.
- Tracking shots will help show what is happening in the film as we can follow the character as they are moving. It will also give different angles and help show what is happening around the character.
- Fast Cuts will play a crucial part in this film as the genre for our film is action/mystery thriller. Fast cuts will be needed to help build suspense and raise the intensity of the over all film, leading the audience to thinking anything could take place.
- Fade To Black will be used, this is so that the passing of time in our film can easily be shown. This will help build the over all plot of the film and help the audience see a more clear version of the story line.
Sound:
Diegetic Wind is going to be one of the sound that plays in the background, this is because the setting is outside and will just help the film feel more natural.
- Crickets is going to be in the background as well as the wind. This will help show the audience that it is the end of the day and has been a long day for our main character.
- 90 second throughout the high action part of the film the stalker is going to be counting down from 90 which will help build the suspense of the film as the audience will know how much time Schalk has to hide.
